If you’re looking to learn from the best in the business, look no further.

Shezzy Sheikh is one of the most successful eBay dropshippers in the industry, with sales last month totaling over $200,000. But it wasn’t always like this.

A few years ago, he was just a student looking for a small side income. But after discovering the potential of eBay dropshipping, he decided to make it into a full-time business in 2016.

I talked with Shezzy to learn about his meteoric rise to success and get his advice on how to become an eBay dropshipper in 2019.

How easy is it to become an eBay dropshipper in 2019?

It’s very simple, particularly compared to a few years ago when I started. There never used to be software like Salefreaks. Now you can click a button and list 1000’s of items at a time whilst the software does everything for you.

Another thing, I see a lot of brand new eBay stores that get lots of sales and are performing very well which is amazing to see and shows it’s very possible.

How much money should you have to start a dropshipping business?

You can start from as small as you want, even just $500, but I’d say a good start would be around $2,000 – $3,000 because from there you have lots of money to pay for good software and to sell lots of items.

The thing to remember is, if you start small, you’ll rise slowly. But if you have the cash, you’ll scale up very fast.

What are some of the best ways to learn about dropshipping?

There are so many ways.

I like to learn from other sellers. You can use tools like ZIK Analytics to get a good idea of what other sellers are doing and how you can beat them. I always have some sellers that I want to beat and “be at that rank” so to speak.

Another great way is to join groups. I think I’ve joined hundreds of Facebook groups! There are a lot of good people around on Facebook that can really help you. You can get good advice in the comments and even reach out to other sellers.

What are the biggest advantages to starting a dropshipping business?

If you’re entrepreneurial like me, a dropshipping business is a great starter business for beginners. There are lots of opportunities within e-commerce and one of the easiest is dropshipping. You can start from scratch, hire lots of people and work from the comfort of your home.

Before you tried dropshipping, did you think about any other ways to make money online?

Yeah, I tried forex, shares and all those kind of things but there’s a lot of money involved and it wasn’t for me. I ended up losing around $5,000 and stopped doing it.

I tried and I was passionate to learn but I think you need a lot of capital to make those ventures work, whereas with dropshipping it’s easy to start.

What motivates you?

There was a time in my life when I was empty and nothing was working for me and I had to do everything from scratch. And when I did it, I said to myself I never want to be at the point ever again. Bill Gates says if you’re born poor it’s not your mistake but if you die poor it is.

What type of person will succeed as a dropshipper?

I think it’s all about having a winning personality and being rigorous. If you have the mindset that someone else is always to blame “eBay did this” “my supplier did this” “the customer did this”, you won’t get anywhere.

Being a dropshipper isn’t for everyone. In fact, I don’t think everyone can become an entrepreneur.  If you want to be successful, you need to be unique and creative but at the same time be willing to mimic and learn from the best.

Those are the people that will succeed.

When did you feel like you knew what you were doing?

Around 1-2 years. There are always new things to learn though.

When it comes to hiring workers, what’s your biggest piece of advice?

That’s easy, you need to learn the whole process yourself. Only hire someone once you understand how it works yourself and you have the money to do it.

Do your friends and family understand your business? Do they ever ask you about it?

I think they find it easier to understand now because I have an office and I hire my own workers. A lot of dropshippers hire people online instead and work from home. When I started selling online my father was supportive of me but he wasn’t sure I’d be able to make any money from it.

I still get questions from people all the time though. When someone sees success they automatically come to you and ask you what you’re doing, it’s only natural.

How is running a dropshipping business different to a regular job?

Oh my gosh, 3 years ago I was a full-time worker!

It’s a completely different life, it’s a different environment. Working for a company is like working in a cage where you can’t think outside the box. You just think about the money at the end of the month but you never imagine the things you can do outside of that box. It’s a very different lifestyle.

Do you think running the business has changed you as a person?

Yes, definitely. Before I used to think about how I could earn an amount that was “good enough”, but now I’m thinking about how I can scale up and make my first $1,000,000.

You can do that with a good business. You can go wherever you want. You aren’t limited by a job title or salary.

Another thing, time has become a very important thing to me. Now I think about how I can spend my time with my loved ones and on being creative.

What are your goals and plans for 2019?

Become a millionaire! That’s my main goal and even if I don’t achieve it, I think I’ll be very close.

I’m also thinking more about selling on Amazon. The great thing about dropshipping is it teaches you about what is selling. I’m selling lots of products from other suppliers and from that I have some good ideas of what to source and sell.

What I love is that I’m at the stage in my business now that all the ideas I had in the past I can make them a reality so that’s what I’m going to do this year.

When did you start using Salefreaks?

In the last 3-4 months. When I saw Salefreaks were offering a 50% discount I thought oh my gosh I’ve tried countless other tools, why not try Salefreaks. Now I have 4 stores with Salefreaks with a total of 40,000 listings.

What do you think are the best features of Salefreaks?

Definitely the repricer and the recent category work they’ve been doing. It’s great that you can now setup different fees for different eBay categories.

Most other tools I’ve used don’t do this.

If you want to be competitive, you need software that can automatically change your prices based on your competitors, and Salefreaks does that. I win so many more sales now.

Salefreaks offer free mentors for people with more than 2,000 listings. How important is having a mentor to help you succeed when you’re just starting?

Mentorship gives you motivation which is very important, particularly when you’re just starting.

I used to have a couple of mentors and what I found is they gave me very valuable clues and played a big part in my success.

What would you say to someone considering joining Salefreaks?

If you want the best, Salefreaks is the absolute best of the best.

For 3 years I’ve been trying all the software on the market, and in my experience, Salefreaks gives me the best results and saves me so many workers.

Before Christmas I was running my business with 10 workers – now I only need 5. Everything is getting better.

In the end, it’s all about the tool. A mechanic must have the best tool possible to fix cars, a gardener needs the best lawn mower and a dropshipper needs the best software.
